Toronto Maple Leafs trade Francois Beauchemin to the Anaheim Ducks

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenseman Francois Beauchemin to the Anaheim Ducks for winger Joffery Lupul, defenseman Jake Gardiner, and a conditional 2013 draft pick.

Pierre LeBrun via twitter: The condition on the draft pick is that Lupul has to be on the Leafs roster in 2012-13 for 40 or more games. If he’s not on their roster for 40 or more, the draft pick becomes a 6th round pick. (I asked LeBrun what the pick would be if the Leafs traded Lupul before he reaches 40 games in 2012-13, he said it would be a 6th rounder)

Beauchemin has another year left on his contract in which he’ll be make $3.65 million, a $3.8 million cap hit.

Lupul has 2 more years left on his contract in which he has a salary and cap hit of $4.25 million. James Mirtle via twitter: Lupul will be playing with Bozak and MacArthur according to Ron Wilson.

Gardiner was a 2008 1st round pick, 17th overall. Bob McKenzie does a write up on Gardiner.

Steve Simmons via twitter: “Expect another before the day is out. Believe it or not, they’re gunning for a playoff spot.” Updated: Darren Dreger via twitter: Leafs not expected to announce another trade today.
