Rangers Still like Souray … Lecavalier staying a good idea … Jackets are Sellers
  • Larry Brooks of the NY Post: How will Sather turn the $1.15 million in cap space into a meaningful return for the Rangers? Could they get a 1st round pick for Vinny Prospal and/or Olli Jokinen? The Rangers have also been keeping their eye on Oilers Dman, Sheldon Souray and his $5.4 million cap hit. The Rangers would have to move Michal Rozsival or Wade Redden, and convince Souray to waive his no-trade clause.
  • Gary Shelton of the St. Petersburg Times: With Jeffrey Vinik on the verge of purchasing the Lightning, there have already been rumors that he’d like to shed Vincent Lecavalier’s huge contract. But that might not be a smart thing to do according to Shelton. “I don’t think anything will happen short term. Trying to trade a player as popular as Lecavalier would be a lousy way for any new owner to say hello. To a lot of fans, that would sound more like goodbye”
  • Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: It looks like the Blue Jackets will be sellers at the trade deadline. The Jackets are 9 points out of the last playoff spot.

“It’s a gray area, but we’re probably leaning more toward being sellers,” Howson said. “Nothing is final yet.

“It is difficult for all of us, yes, because we didn’t expect to be in this situation. But that’s the reality. You have to make the most of it.”

  • Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun: Ethan Moreau realizes he may have played his last game in an Oilers uniform.

“Change is sometimes good,” he said. “But I can’t stress enough that it’s not up to me. I’ll have to sit and wait like everybody else.

“If I’m here I’ll continue to do the same things I’ve always done. I’ll work as hard as I can for this organization. If I’m not, hopefully there’s an opportunity for me somewhere else.

“I’m impartial at this point. I don’t know what their plans are. I haven’t had a conversation with anybody who makes those decisions.

“Nothing is for certain in this game, I could be an Oiler when I get back.”

  • Ken Warren the Ottawa Citizen: The Senators are not done shopping, they’d like to add another defenseman. According to Murray, “I’ve talked to some teams already (Friday) about other getting another defenceman, but (other teams) will be shopping, too. Everybody gets the best price they can. Those are the things that happen when it snowballs.”
