Rumors I: Trade Candidates, Red Wings, Flyers, Habs and Coyotes
  • Rory Boylen of The Hockey News: Top 10 trade candidates for this season: Cody Franson, Kris Versteeg (other Blackhawks could be Bryan Bickell, Johnny Oduya and Nick Leddy), Josh Bailey (or maybe Michael Grabner), Johnny Boychuk, Evander Kane, Cam Ward, Eric Staal, Nail Yakupov and Joe Thornton.
  • Ted Kulfan: Danny DeKeyser is not concerned about not having a contract yet, says it’s all business and is optimistic that a deal gets done.
  • Darren Dreger: It’s now a waiting game for the Red Wings and Daniel Alfredsson, as he won’t play until he’s pain free and he won’t sign until he’s convinced that he can still play.  Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: (s/t Pro Hockey Talk) Alfredsson suffered a bit of setback after he “felt a little bit of a tweak” last week according to GM Ken Holland. Latest issue may not be a good sign for him playing another season.

“It’s possible he comes to camp without a contract,” Holland said. “We’ll see what happens over the next week.”

Tim Panaccio: Flyers coach Craig Berube said that Vincent Lecavalier is coming into training camp as a center and that Brayden Schenn and that others can play elsewhere.

  • David Pagnotta: RDS is reporting that Francis Bouillon will attend the Canadiens camp on a PTO.
  • Peter Corbett of the Arizona Republic: The City of Glendale fell a million short on their projections in the first year of their 15-year deal with the Coyotes. The city paid $13.5 million to the Coyotes to manage the arena, which only generated $5.8 million in revenue, $1 million below their projection. Glendale spent $8.1 million on the deal, including some improvements to it. Changing the arena name to the Gila River Arena generates about $600,000 to the city.
