Rumors I: Insider Trading, Jets, Islanders, Oilers Scouting Blues
  • TSN Insider Trading: LeBrun: If the Oilers are going to trade Taylor Hall, it’s a deal better suited for the offseason as more teams could be in on it. If a deal was to be made in-season, the Bruins and Penguins would be very interested as they are looking for a top-six winger.

Dreger: Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz could be trade chips. The Bruins and Penguins could consider a rental player like Antoine Vermette.

McKenzie: The Blackhawks could use some of their young assets to add a center.

LeBurn: The Jets would like to make a trade to increase their playoff hopes. The Kings and Justin Williams talked contract extension last week. If they can’t get an extension done in the next two weeks, talks will be put on hold until after the season according to Williams’ agent.

  • Gary Lawless: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will likely try to trade from their 4th line, but not including Jim Slater. Chris Thorburn has some trade value, though his contract could be an issue.
  • Gary Lawless: With the roster freeze kicking in on Friday, the Jets will be looking to patch their blueline before then.
  • Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is trying to acquire a defenseman. If the asking price is too high, they may be better off to not make a deal and just ride it out. The Jets are without their top three defensemen at the moment: Tobias Enstrom, Zach Bogosian and Jacob Trouba. Don’t expect a blockbuster trade. Enstrom and Bogosian should return sometime in January, and Trouba is now out until February.
  • Daniel Friedman: If the Islanders are going to make a trade for a winger, it would likely be for a veteran and closer to the deadline. Maybe someone like Jarome Iginla.
  • Lou Korac: Oilers pro scout, Duane Sutter, was in St. Louis to watch the Blues-Kings game. He attended the past few Blues home games.
