Rumors and Video: Maple Leafs, Canucks, Sabres and Sharks

  • Sportsnet: Daren Millard, Nick Kypreos and Doug MacLean look at the Maple Leafs and who they should trade this offseason or not re-sign. Kypreos thinks the Leafs should trade Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak. Kessel is going to have to go to a contender. Bozak is a good number No. 2 on some teams and they need to move him to bring something back of significance. Joffrey Lupul just makes too much money for the amount of ice he gets and the time spent on the IR. David Booth is good a $1 million, but they will likely move on from him. MacLean thinks Nazem Kadri is still an important part for their future. Kypreos believes that Dion Phaneuf will be dealt this summer. He can’t live up to the contract or the letter on his jersey. MacLean doesn’t think the Leafs will bring Eric Brewer back. MacLean thinks they will try to sign pending RFA Jonathan Bernier to a short, soft contract. May not be able to do much better than Bernier and James Reimer.
  • News 1130 Sports: Jordan Subban’s agent will talk with the Canucks this week about an entry-level contract.
  • Joe Yerdon: Looking at the Sabres. Goaltending should be the first thing on GM Tim Murray’s list after the draft. UFA goalies include: Antti Niemi, Michal Neuvirth, Devan Dubnyk, Anders Lindback, Andrew Hammond, Viktor Fasth, Karri Ramo, Jhonas Enroth and Matt Hackett. Can’t see the Wild letting Dubnyk go, but the rest will likely hit the open market. They could be set on the blueline with Josh Gorges, Zach Bogosian, Nikita Zadorov, Rasmus Ristolainen, Mike Weber, Mark Pysyk, Jake McCabe and Chad Ruhwedel. They could also be set on left wing with Matt Moulson, Evander Kane, Marcus Foligno and Nicolas Deslauriers. Could be set up the middle, depending on the draft. It might be interesting on the right side with Tyler Ennis, Brian Gionta and Cody Hodgson, and with Justin Bailey and Nicholas Baptiste leaving junior.
  • David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News: Sharks coach Todd McLellan doesn’t want to talk about his coaching future until the season is over on Saturday.

“I don’t want to talk about anything until we’re done,” he said. “There’s a lot of evaluation that has to go on. Now, I want to enjoy the team for a couple of games and then we’ll deal with that after.”

McLellan has one year left on his deal, but there has been lots of speculation around him all season.
