Dennis Bernstein: The Anaheim Ducks were interested in Kevin Shattenkirk and had offered him a multi-year deal.

The Los Angeles Kings also showed interest but never made him an offer.

David Pagnotta: The Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, and Winnipeg Jets were among the teams that showed serious interest in Shattenkirk.

Joey Palazzola: Back in 2017 Shattenkirk vetoed trades to the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning. Reports were that the Blues would have landed Taylor Hall or Jonathan Drouin.

Tampa Bay Lightning: Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk signed a one-year, $1.75 million deal with the Lightning after being bought out by the New York Rangers.

“I think I have a huge chip on my shoulder right now. I think obviously it didn’t work out with injuries and performance and with the way the direction of the team kind of deteriorated from when I signed on July 1st.”

Shattenkirk was close to being acquired by the Lightning a couple of years ago at the trade deadline.

“I definitely was close to being part of the Lightning a few years back with my time coming to an end in St. Louis. There was a trade there on the table but I felt like I wanted to get to free agency and see what was available. It was all healthy and positive conversations with management there. I think it was something we all kind of understood that there was no bad blood and I’m happy that that line of communication stayed open and we were able to join up now. I think it’s always been a team that was on my radar and a team that I would always have been excited to play for.”

Shattenkirk added that there were six or seven teams interested and he narrowed it down to two teams.
