Quick Hits: Waivers, Gagne and More Injury Notes
  • Bob McKenzie: “I can see it being 33-team league, with SEA, Las Vegas and QC in. I don’t think NHL is hung up on round number. Put me down for 33.”
  • Bob McKenzie: On waivers today: Brian Gibbons (CBJ), Patrice Cormier (WPG) and Bobby Robins (BOS)
  • Renaud Lavoie: The Bruins signed Simon Gagne to a one-year contract worth $600,000.
  • John Vogl: NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the Sabres could host another Winter Classic in the upcoming years.
  • Joe McDonald: The Bruins send Jordan Caron and Bobby Robins to the AHL.
  • Rich Hammond: Kings GM Dean Lombardi said that Marian Gaborik is out. No timetable on his return. Jon Rosen: Kings hockey ops are saying that Gaborik’s injury is similar to the muscle injury that he was dealing with during the preseason.
  • Erik Erlendsson: Lightning’s Jonathan Drouin has yet to meet with medical staff about getting clearance. He is still experiencing some pain.
  • Michael Smith: Jeff Skinner skated today in a no-contact jersey. He won’t play tonight.
  • Andrew Gross: Rangers Mats Zuccarello skated this morning. He missed Sunday’s game with a suspected right shoulder injury.
  • Anaheim Ducks: Patrick Maroon (lower-body) is out tonight and will have precautionary tests tomorrow in Anaheim. Maroon’s injury is not thought to be serious.
  • Dave Isaac: Flyers coach Craig Berube said that Braydon Coburn could skate tomorrow. Nick Schultz may have earned a spot on the Flyers blueline even when Coburn returns.
  • Mike Heika: Stars Valeri Nichushkin is out tonight with his groin/hip pointer and is being checked out.
  • John Vogl: Sabres Mark Pysyk (upper-body) is practicing this morning.
  • Bob McKenzie: Flames Sam Bennett had his shoulder today and will be out four to six months.
  • Tracey Myers: Blackhawks Michal Rozsival won’t play tomorrow. Marian Hossa will be in the lineup. Coach Joe Quenneville is hopeful that Kris Versteeg will be able to start skating this weekend.
