Quick hits on Crosby, Boucher, Panthers, Nikitin and the salary floor
  • Josh Yohe via twitter: Would have to assume the Penguins have protected themselves with insurance for Sidney Crosby’s contract. Will have to wait for contract details to come out to know for sure.
  • Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer: Hurricanes backup goalie Brian Boucher will have shoulder surgery that will keep him out for 4 to 6 months. Boucher appeared in only 10 games last year, mainly due to a groin injury. Justin Peters could be ready to step in as the back up next year.
  • Bob McKenzie via twitter: The Panthers put Mike Santorelli on waivers, and Matt Bradley on unconditional $125 waivers.
  • Aaron Portzline via twitter: The Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Nikita Nikitin to a 2  year deal worth $4.3 million. He’ll make $1.8 million next year, and $2.5 million in 2013-14.
  • Andy Strickland via twitter: The salary floor will be $54 million, and is one reason why half the league is losing lots of money. Owners will want the cap to come down and revenue sharing to go up.
