The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded Matt Martin to the New York Islanders for Eamon McAdam

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded winger Matt Martin to the New York Islanders for goaltender Eamon McAdam.

The 29-year old Martin was drafted 148th overall in the 5th round of the 2008 draft. He carries a $2.5 million salary cap hit.

The 23-year old McAdam was drafted 70th overall in the 3rd round of the 2013 draft by the Islanders. He carries a $950,000 cap hit.

Thoughts from the media …

Andrew Gross: “Matt Martin has two seasons left on the four-year, $10-million deal he signed with Maple Leafs – when Lou Lamoriello was the Toronto GM”

Cap Friendly: “ acquire goalie Eamon McAdam, who is on the final year of his Entry Level contract which carries a cap hit of $925,000. McAdam is waiver exempt for another 2 seasons, or 60 games played, and will expire as an RFA with no Arb rights next summer.”

Cap Friendly: “With the trading Matt Martin to Long Island, we now show Toronto with roughly $16.1M in projected cap space based on a tentative roster of 17 (9F/6D/2G).

Notable RFA’s unsigned (4 total): F William Nylander F Frédérik Gauthier F Andreas Johnsson D Justin Holl

Mike Morreale: “Martin spent the past 2 seasons w/ the Leafs. He played 7 straight seasons w/ the Isles to begin his career following the ’08 Draft.”

Jonathan Willis: “The Maple Leafs have traded Matt Martin to the New York Islanders in exchange for:

  • $2.5MM in cap space in 2018-19
  • $2.5MM in cap space in 2019-20 as well as
  • ECHL goalie Eamon McAdam”

Dobber Hockey: “ have an amazing fourth line of Kuhnhackl-Cizikas-Fillppula-Komarov-Martin-Clutterbuck They’re bound to get called for too many men on the ice, though”

B.D. Gallof: “We are now up to 4 – 4th liners signed or traded for. None of these players are 3rd line.

Sean Tierney: “Out since Dubas became GM: Polak, Komarov, Martin, Bozak, JVR

In: Tavares

I think the Leafs are going to be just fine without Lamoriello and Hunter.”

Tyler Dellow: “Martin, who was playing for a famously strong-willed coach who loved him, played three games after January 22. All against Buffalo.”
