The Ottawa Senators have traded defenseman Erik Karlsson to the San Jose Sharks

The Ottawa Senators have traded Erik Karlsson and Francis Perron to the San Jose Sharks for Chris Tierney, Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, Dylan DeMelo, conditional 2020 first-round pick, a conditional 2019 second round pick, and a conditional 2021 second-round pick.

Dean Brown: “Sens also get a 2nd rd pick in 2021.  It becomes a first if the Sharks sign him and  SJ makes it to the final this season. The Sens also get a 1st in 2021 or 2022 if Karlsson plays for an eastern team in 2018/19.”

The 28-year old Karlsson was drafted 15th overall in the first round of the 2008 draft. He carries a $6.5 million salary cap hit and will be a free agent after the season.

The 22-year old Perron was drafted 190th overall in the seventh round of the 2014 draft by the Senators. He carries a $925,000 salary cap hit.

The 24-year old Tierney was drafted 55th overall in the second round of the 2012 draft by the Sharks. He carries a $2.937,500 salary cap hit.

The 19-year old Norris was drafted 19th overall in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Sharks.

The 21-year old Balcers was drafted 142nd overall in the fifth round of the 2015 draft by the Sharks. He carries a $925,000 salary cap hit.

The 25-year old DeMelo was drafted 179th overall in the sixth round of the 2011 draft by the Sharks. He carries a $900,000 salary cap hit.
