Some thoughts from the media

Pat Steinberg: “Calgary was close to not qualifying Shinkaruk in June but opted to go ahead. He was also looking at options in Europe, so was pretty clear Shinkaruk was not long for the organization.”

Kristen Anderson: “A minor league exchange for the that sends forward Hunter Shinkaruk to the Montreal Canadiens for Kerby Rychel. Shinkaruk had been spinning his wheels in the organization since they picked him up in the Markus Granlund deal in 2016.”

Andrew Berkshire: “I think Rychel is a slightly better bet than Shinkaruk overall, but it’s a depth move of two players that aren’t likely to make an impact.”

Cap Friendly: “Both players are un-signed RFA’s who require waivers to be loaned to the minors”
