The LA Kings trade Andy Andreoff to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Peter Budaj

NHL.com: The Los Angeles Kings have traded forward Andy Andreoff to the Tampa Bay Lightning for goaltender Peter Budaj.

The 27-year old Andreoff was drafted 80th overall in the third-round of the 2011 draft by the Kings. Andreoff carries a $677,500 salary cap hit and will be an unrestricted free agent after next season.

The 35-year old Budaj was drafted 63rd overall in the second-round of the 2001 draft by the Avalanche. Budaj carries a $1,024,999 salary cap hit and will be an unrestricted free agent after next season.

Thoughts from the media …

Joe Smith: Louis Domingue had replaced Budaj as the Lightning’s backup down the stretch last season.

Pierre LeBrun: “Plan is for Jack Campbell to remain Kings backup, Budaj brought back to be No. 3 depth guy, Kings believe he’ll work well with goalie Cal Petersen in Ontario (AHL).”

Joe Smith: “In Peter Budaj trade to Kings, they received forward Andy Andreoff, who played in 159 games last four years with 13 goals. 262 career hits. Could compete for bottom six spot in camp I’d imagine. Remember Callahan out first month of season w shoulder surgery”

John Hoven: “Nice move by Blake – sends Andreoff to TBL, where he may have better chance to make NHL roster (had largely been squeezed out in LA). Also gets a vet backup goalie for Ontario; and somebody who knows the organization in Budaj. Not directly related, but also could help Rieder.”
