NHL Rumors: William Nylander Still Looking For A Contract … Possible Landing Spots For Erik Karlsson
Looking at some potential landing spots for Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson.
William Nylander still looking for a contract

Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: Training camp is getting close and the Toronto Maple Leafs still need to sign restricted free agent William Nylander.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner have been eligible to sign a contract extension but haven’t signed one yet.

Nylander looks like a consistent 25-30 goal scorer but could reach 40. He could also end up being a center, which makes him more valuable. Both are reasons that may point to a bridge deal.

Winnipeg Jets Nikolaj Ehlers has similar numbers to Nylander and he signed for seven years and $42 million. $6 million a season seems a little low for Nylander.

Possible landing spots for Erik Karlsson

Lyle Richardson of Spector’s Hockey: Looking at the possible landing spots for Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson, listed in order of likely destinations.

Tampa Bay Lightning – Early offseason reports had them the front-runners, with the Senators likely looking for Mikhail Sergachev and Brayden Point. The Lightning may need to create extra cap space to acquire Karlsson. Have been rumors of Ryan Callahan to the NY Rangers to help create space.

Dallas Stars – Some think the Stars are the front-runner, and they have the cap space. The stumbling block may be the Stars not willing to include prospect Miro Heiskanen.

Vegas Golden Knights – Were close on to a deal back at the trade deadline. The Golden Knights have the future assets to give up and the cap space to fit him in. It may end up costing Shea Theodore, Cody Glass or Erik Brannstrom in a deal.

San Jose Sharks – Inquired about Karlsson prior to the trade deadline last year, and could revisit trade talks. The Sharks have also been linked to Max Pacioretty. The Sharks would need to move some salary out, and they may not have the assets to land Karlsson.

Vancouver Canucks – The Canucks have the salary cap space and the assets to acquire him. Canucks GM Jim Benning denied the report that they were interested. Karlsson may not be interested in signing an extension with another rebuilding team.
