Luke DeCock: Believe that the Carolina Hurricanes and the Anaheim Ducks have a trade in place for defenseman Justin Faulk.

The Ducks are a team on his no-trade list so it’s up to Faulk if he wants to go or not.

The Hurricanes have had an interest in Ducks forward Ondrej Kase so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was a player involved in a potential deal.

Sara Civ: The Hurricanes trading Faulk has been in the works but getting him to waive his no-trade clause has been the biggest detail.

David Pagnotta: The Hurricanes-Ducks trade is basically waiting on Faulk’s decision to sign a contract extension or not.

Had been told that the Hurricanes made Faulk a significant contract extension offer earlier this offseason and he turned it down.

David Pagnotta: If there is a contract extension for Faulk with the Ducks, you can expect it to be higher than $6 million.

Eric Stephens: The Ducks are open to extension talks if they aren’t working on them already.

Would guess that a trade offer would be different if there is an extension in place than if there wasn’t.

Eric Stephens of The Athletic: The Anaheim Ducks have been looking for a right-handed defenseman. They made Kevin Shattenkirk an offer before he signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Adding Justin Faulk will check off a few needs for the Ducks

Faulk would need to waive his no-trade clause and getting him to agree to an extension may be key for the Ducks. The Ducks may be okay with making the trade now and working out an extension later on if they can’t agree quickly.

The 27-year old Faulk could be looking for $6 million plus per season on an extension.

The cost to acquire isn’t known yet – Luke DeCock reports the Hurricanes interested in Kase.

Adding Faulk would reduce the pressure on Brendan Guhle and Jacob Larsson as Faulk would join their top-four with Cam Fowler, Hampus Lindholm and Josh Manson.
