Vegas Golden Knights forwards James Neal and David Perron have been offered contracts, but are talking to teams and are unlikely heading back to Vegas.

Sheng Peng: Golden Knights GM George McPhee said that they extended contract offers to James Neal, David Perron, Luca Sbisa and Ryan Reaves. McPhee added that Reaves wants longer term on a deal.

David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal: The Golden Knights were able to agree to terms with David Perron and James Neal before the free agent window opened up, and they’ve “fielded offers” from teams yesterday.

Allan Walsh, Perron’s agent, said yesterday that the Golden Knights haven’t made an to Perron since they exchanged proposals back in February.

“There’s been significant interest in David today (Sunday),” Walsh said. “David has loved his time in Las Vegas. He loves his teammates. It’s a very special group. But he’s forced to look at other opportunities.”

Perron is looking to sign a long-term deal.

Neal rejected a five-year, $25 million contract offer from the Golden Knights at the trade deadline according to the Calgary Sun. Sportsnet has reported Neal is looking for $6.5 to $7 million. Neal’s agent Patrick Morris

 “Common sense says that if (Neal is) not signed by July 1, he’s probably not coming back (to Vegas).”

It’s looking like Luca Sbisa and Ryan Reaves are unlikely to be back as well.

“We’ve made offers to all the players,” general manager George McPhee told reporters Saturday following the NHL draft in Dallas. “In a cap world, you don’t have the flexibility to do what you like to do all the time.”

“So far, they haven’t been accepted, so we’ll see where the process takes us,” McPhee said. “But there’s a line there. You either have a deal or you don’t.”

Neal is looking for $6 million over six years and previously rejected $5 million over five years.

Reaves is looking for a raise from his $1.12 million and is looking for longer tern than what the Golden Knights offered. McPhee said Reaves’ camp will circle back, but if they get more term, Reaves won’t be back.

Pending RFAs include William Karlsson, William Carrier, Tomas Nosek, Colin Miller and Shea Theodore.

The Golden Knights have $31 million in salary cap space, and it sounds like they could be allowed to speak with John Tavares.
