Canucks continue talks with Boeser and Edler
Irfaan Gaffar: Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning said that he’s been in contact with and continue negotiations with Alex Edler’s camp.
Contract talks with Brock Boeser are ongoing and Benning hopes a deal can get done sooner than later.
Canucks would need a sweetener
Jonathan Willis: The Vancouver Canucks would be nuts to trade Loui Eriksson for Milan Lucic without taking on a sweetener. Lucic’s contract is one-year longer, an extra $6 million.
Could the Jets and Oilers help each other out?

- Edmonton’s needs: Top six wingers, third-line centre, a goalie, potentially a right-shot defenceman
The Jets are in a salary cap crunch with RFAs Kyle Connor, Patrik Laine, Andrew Copp, Jacob Trouba, etc to re-sign.
The Jets could look at trading Nikolaj Ehlers, the asking price should be high and it shouldn’t just be about creating cap space.
Mathieu Perreault at $4.125 million seems like the odd forward out. He has a five-team no-trade list.
Trading Jacob Trouba seems inevitable and the return they get for him would play a role in their offseason plans.
They could look at buying out defenseman Dmitry Kulikov who is scheduled to make $2.9 million.
Re-signing UFAs Tyler Myers, Brandon Tanev and Ben Chiarot won’t be easy to fit in.
Ideally, the Edmonton Oilers would be able to move Milan Lucic’s contract.
The Oilers could have interest in Jets goaltender prospect Eric Comrie.
The Oiler have prospects Caleb Jones, Joel Persson, Ethan Bear, William Lagesson, Evan Bouchard and Dmitri Samorukov. NHL blue trade candidates could be Andrej Sekera, Kris Russell and Matt Benning.
The Jets could offer Perreault for futures. He has two years left at $4 million. Russell and Sekera both come around in the same numbers as Perreault.
What about a Perreault, Kulivov and a sweetener for Sekera?
The Oilers could have interest in Ehlers. The Jets may want a young defenseman who is under some control – Oscar Klefbom or Darnell Nurse? Would the Jets be interested in the Oilers No. 8 pick?
