Maple Leafs – Marner notes from Friday

Darner Dreger: (Friday) Summary of some radio comments

“I believe the parameters of an extension with Leafs have been discussed. $11 mil or more not part of discussions.

Like the Matthews contract, term is a huge sticking point for Marner. Not interested in max term. Remains committed to visiting with teams next week if there’s no agreement with Toronto.”

@Prospects_Watch: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 590 on the Maple Leafs and Marner: “You want to talk about one that has gotten awkward, this has gotten awkward between everyone involved…Both sides are sitting there saying they’re surprised it has gotten to this point.

The Maple Leafs are frustrated with Marner and his camp and I think Marner is frustrated with the Maple Leafs and that organization.”

Expected that Marner will talk to other teams on Wednesday

Pierre LeBrun: It is expected that Mitch Marner‘s camp will hear from teams on Wednesday when the restricted free agent interview window opens.

  • Pierre LeBrun: “This goes without saying but I feel like I should anyways: obviously if talks progress with the Leafs before Wednesday I doubt the Marner camp would want to get serious with other teams. Really depends where things are at in a few days.”
Dubas spoke with Dorion and Armstrong among others.

Maple Leafs Hot Stove: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion on 1200 after round one on his draft floor talks with Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas.

“We were discussing DJ’s eating habits… No, I think the Maple Leafs are trying to do things and we are trying to do things. I don’t know if we are headed for a possible trade. Sometimes you see guys talking standing up, but there are a lot of calls that are on the phone. We were just talking about something that could happen possibly in the future.”

Frank Seravalli of TSN: Dubas on Friday night was speaking with St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong, maybe about the availability of forward Robby Fabbri.

Maple Leafs looking at Vegas AHL coach

John Shannon: Have been hearing that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking at Chicago Wolves (AHL) coach Rocky Thompson about joining their coaching staff.

Thompson is under contract with Vegas. Not sure if Vegas would be willing to grant him a release.
