The Flyers could use a right winger and a couple more roster tweaks

Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: The Philadelphia Flyers won’t have a ton of cap space left after Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, and Scott Laughton get new deals. They currently have 18 players signed with around $16 million in cap space.

After signing their RFAs, they may have around $3 million in cap space to find a third line right winger. They also need to leave some cap space for injuries and potential bonuses.

It’s curious as to why the Flyers agreed to retain a million of Radko Gudas‘ salary in the Matt Niskanen trade. Trading for defenseman Justin Braun added even more salary.

Will the Flyers have enough money to sign any of Brett Connolly, Micheal Ferland, Mats Zuccarello, Corey Perry, Justin Williams, Gustav Nyquist, Joonas Donskoi, Wayne Simmonds or Alex Chiasson?

Being able to sign any of Connolly, Ferland, Chiasson, or Donskoi would be a win for the Flyers.

“If we start the season with what we have now, and knowing we have a pretty good chance of adding a few more players for depth, we’d be fine, we’d be happy,” said Fletcher, whose team went 37-37-8 last season and missed the playoffs. “We be a significantly deeper team, and I think a more talented team. We’ll certainly have opportunities, whether it’s next week or training camp. There will be roster decisions every team has to make.”

The Flyers can make some additions during the season well.

Dave Isaac of the Courier Post: Philadelphia Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher is not finished with his roster yet.

“I just feel like we have a couple more roster tweaks coming here in the next few days,” he said this week.

They could try prospect Joel Farabee or Morgan Frost at right wing on their third line, but Fletcher doesn’t sound like he wants to go that route.

“Whether we’re able to add another winger or another forward, well certainly we’re going to have to add some forwards here for depth and to compete in our bottom six, but whether we go after another high-end player, that wasn’t a very big priority for our team,” Fletcher said.

Potential free agent targets: Joonas Donskoi, Alex Chiasson, Brett Connolly, Brandon Tanev and Corey Perry.
