NHL Rumors: Stars, Oilers, Wild, Lightning and Capitals
The Tampa Bay Lightning are hopeful to get Ryan McDonagh signed to a contract extension this offseason.
On the Dallas Stars …

Andy Strickland: Some people are feeling that if the Stars are able to sign John Tavares, they would shop Tyler Seguin.

Sean Shapiro: From Tavares’ point of view and not from the Stars, but Seguin being in Dallas would be part of the reason that he’d consider signing there.

Jason Spezza would have to be moved.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

Ryan Rishaug: Sounding like the Oilers and goaltender Cam Talbot will hold off any contract extension talks until after the season starts. It is an important year for him and for the Oilers.

On the Minnesota Wild …

Michael Russo of The Athletic: The Wild may be checking out the backup goal market and may consider free agents Carter Hutton, Anton Khudobin, Chad Johnson, Jonathan Bernier, Robin Lehner, Kari Lehtonen, Jaroslav Halak and Cam Ward.

GM Paul Fenton is trying to attach Tyler Ennis‘ $4.6 million contract to one of Jason Zucker, Nino Niederreiter or Charlie Coyle in a trade so he doesn’t have to buy out Ennis.

Multiple sources are saying that Fenton has asked Eric Staal, Jared Spurgeon and Devan Dubnyk for updated no-trade lists, though it’s suggested that it’s “just a formality for his files” and was supposed to be done already.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: After re-signing J.T. Miller, the Lightning would still like to extend the contract of Ryan McDonagh. McDonagh would be an unrestricted free agent after next season.

On the Washington Capitals …

Roman Jedlicka: Capitals free agent defenseman Michal Kempny: “I don’t want to change things that work. So my priority for next season is to re-sign w/ Caps. We will see what happens.”

Pierre LeBrun: Devante Smith-Pelly didn’t qualify by the Capitals, but they are talking about a new deal. The Capitals were apparently worried about a potential arbitration hearing. Smith-Pelly will also get interest from other teams.
