NHL Rumors: Dallas Stars and the Toronto Maple Leafs

On the Dallas Stars and Tyler Segauin…

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News:  Another down season may result in some big changes for the Dallas Stars. That includes the possibility of trading Tyler Seguin. The 2018-19 season is his contract year and Dallas does not want him in limbo. If a year under Ken Hitchcock does not fix the Stars’ woes, then a break-up is likely.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Luke Fox of Sportsnet: There are up to nine defensemen that Toronto could be targeting. Some would argue that a few protected blueliners maybe available also. Most are right handed shots and that is okay for what Toronto needs.

Mathew Dumba is one of the big fish in this pond so to speak. The Minnesota defenseman is 22 on a modest $2.55 million salary.

Sami Vatanen may be a risk at $4.875 million but he does offer some power play boost.

Josh Manson, also from the Anaheim Ducks, may be more appetizing given his cheap salary for the next year. He will be an RFA after but his raise should not be astronomical.

Ben Lovejoy is just a penalty killer at this point with little upside anywhere else.

Colin Miller from the Boston Bruins has a bit more upside at 24. However, he does tend to skate into traps too often and makes critical mistakes. If that can be cleaned up then Miller becomes palatable.

There are some less notable but Nate Schmidt might be interesting. The former Washington Capital could be had for cheaper and has room to grow his offensive and defensive game.

Frank Serviaelli of TSN: The Maple Leafs and Golden Knights are in trade talks. Toronto did not care who they lost in the expansion draft. There is even a little talk about Marc Methot, who could get pried away to the Maple Leafs.

There are the usual defensive suspects from Las Vegas including Colin Miller and Josh Manson. Toronto has options on players that can trade for. That is the key here. Miller does seem a very likely target if the Maple Leafs can pull off a deal.
