  • Craig Morgan: Coyotes GM Don Maloney said a month ago that Shane Doan contract talks won’t happen until the offseason. Everyone is expecting that he’ll be back.

On the Ilya Kovalchuk …

  • Gabrielle T-F: Sources were telling Russian media that Ilya Kovalchuk would be leaving SKA St Petersburg to join the expansion team in China.
  • Aivis Kalnins: He has a contract offer from the team in China, but a decision on where he could play next year likely won’t happen anytime soon.
  • Aivis Kalnins: Have been told that Kovalchuk has multiple offers from teams in KHL and a couple in Switzerland.
  • Aivis Kalnins: According to Timchenk, Kovalchuk is under contract with SKA and will remain with the team.

On the New York Rangers …

  • Steve Zipay of Newsday: Defenseman Keith Yandle was relieved when the Rangers didn’t trade him at the deadline. The 29-year old pending UFA will be looking at a multi-year deal, possibly for as much as $6.5 million a season.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

  • Terry Frei of the Denver Post: If Mikko Rantanen plays tomorrow, it will be his ninth game this year. One more game after that and he’ll burn a year of his contract.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

  • Curtis Rush: P.A. Parenteau is a pending UFA and he feels like he has a couple years left in him.
  • Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun: Tyler Bozak knows there will be even more changes to the Maple Leafs roster this offseason, but he hopes to still be a part of the team.

    “I think there is going to be changes this summer like there always is,” Bozak said.

    “We are not finishing in a great spot in the standings, so we have not done our job. I am sure things will be changed in the room, but who knows?

    “I think the guys have been doing really good and have been earning their keep up here and staff and management have been really pleased with them. That’s bright for the future. I hope I can be part of it.”
