NHL Rumors: Senators, Wild, Canucks, and Devils
New Jersey Devils forward Taylor Hall
Senators – Duchene talks to continue

Darren Dreger: Contract talks between the Ottawa Senators and pending free agent Matt Duchene are expected to continue this week. Talk is of an eight-year contract in the range of $65 to $75 million – in the $8 to $9 million-plus per season. This is “still ballpark discussions.”

Fenton on the trade deadline

Chad Graff: Minnesota Wild GM Paul Fenton on the approaching trade deadline: “One day I’m thinking that we have the opportunity to go forward and one day I’m thinking that, you know, it’s not that great of a team.”

Goldobin’s agent is disappointed

Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Vancouver Canucks forward Nikolay Goldobin has seen his ice time decrease and agent Igor Larionov has said that he’s “very disappointed” about the situation.

Will the Devils be aggressive leading up to the trade deadline?

TSN: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1260 and was talking about the New Jersey Devils and the approaching trade deadline. Things haven’t gone the way they had hoped this season, partly due to injuries – Taylor Hall – and their inconsistent goaltending.

“And up until very recently, it was believed that Ray Shero might be among the more aggressive and active general managers between now and the trade deadline. And we’re going to have to see whether or not that’s the case.

“One thing for sure is given his history, if Shero doesn’t like something or he sees the opportunity to add a piece or pieces, then he’s going to do that. He’s done that historically.”

Devils won’t let Hall turn into a Tavares situation

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on 630 CHED and was asked about Devils Taylor Hall, who has one year left on his contract.

“I think we’re going to know the answer to that well before a year from now,” indicated Friedman. “I just think that New Jersey won’t allow itself to be in the same position the Islanders were in with John Tavares. I mean geez, the Islanders are two points behind the Maple Leafs, and whoever would have seen that coming. But I just don’t believe that the Devils will allow it to get to that point.

“If they feel that Taylor Hall won’t sign with them, that decision will be made – I bet – much sooner.”
