Canadiens GM on the trade deadline

Arpon Basu: Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin on the trade deadline: “I don’t think I’ll be in the rental business”

Pierre LeBrun: “Bergevin hasn’t lost the mindset he entered the season with. Team is in a reset. Yes they’re surprising people, but that won’t deter what his plan is. So I think any trade he makes has a long term feel to it. Could help team now but must also help team long term within that

Arpon Basu: Bergevin later said that they’ve even thought about potentially trading veteran players for future assets. It’s a possibility.

Eric Engels: GM Bergevin said that their top prospects are not available.

“Right now it’s way too early to talk about that. Other general managers – nobody has started talking about trades. And that’s usually 10 days before, a week before, so we have a long ways to go for that. Again, I’m going to listen. If I think it makes sense, I’ll do it. But I’m not going to start mortgaging the future because I what’s coming with the World Junior – who they’re going to be asking for – and I’m not moving these kids. So it’s going to be a short conversation I think.”
