NHL Rumors: Scott Gordon, Jim Benning, and Jordan Weal
Jim Benning addresses some of Vancouver's summer plans.
Players believe in Scott Gordon as head coach

Sam Carchidi of the Philly Inquirer:  The players believe in Scott Gordon even if the fans are a bit more skeptical. The ending streak for Philadelphia did little to sway them. Philadelphia fired back with quite a strong 25 game streak but it took too much out of them. Over the final ten games, this was not the same Flyers game.

The hope is that a shorter term contract deal would be ideal. It becomes difficult to coach so Philadelphia is expected to appreciate the contributions. This made Philadelphia harder to play against. One weakness which will rise to the surface is the team defense/penalty kill. It becomes difficult to correct that in-season. Hopefully, summer vacation will be kind to Gordon and he will be still employed by the Flyers come early next hockey season.

Jim Benning and his quest to add scoring help

Sportsnet:  In order for Benning to make Vancouver a playoff team like his goal states, he must find scoring.

“I’d like to add another top 6 forward and a D, that’s what we’re looking to do”

A top-six forward would help from a play driving and scoring standpoint. The latter is critical for a team that needs more consistent scoring. As for defensive needs, the feeling is to improve the penalty kill and depth to aid the defense. Filling holes correctly would help Vancouver compete better and improve.

Could Jordan Weal attract some interest?

Jim Matheson:  Another early offseason for Edmonton leads to a ton of speculation. This time, it is focused on Jordan Weal. The Oilers tried to acquire Weal at the trade deadline but were thwarted by Montreal. He becomes a forward target that would be cheap to sign and not cost a lot of cap space. His speed would be an asset plus there is some finishing ability in those hands.
