NHL Rumors: Hurricanes, Maple Leafs, Golden Knights and Canadiens
The Carolina Hurricanes hope to sign recently acquired Scott Darling
On the Carolina Hurricanes …

NHL.com: The Hurricanes traded for the rights to Scott Darling on Friday and the hope to sign him soon than later.

“Obviously we’d like to get something done sooner rather than later,” Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis told The News & Observer on Friday.

The Hurricanes sent the Chicago Blackhawks a third round pick.

“This is a bit of a gamble, but one we believed was worth taking,” Francis told the newspaper. “This is why we accumulated these picks, and we still have 10 left. It was worth the risk.”

On the Vegas Golden Knights and Toronto Maple Leafs …

Steve Simmon of the Toronto Sun: Word is the Golden Knights are not that interested in Maple Leafs defenseman Martin Marincin if he’s left exposed for the draft.

The Leafs need some help on the blueline, someone that can take a slap-shot on the power play. They get traffic in front of the net but don’t have a big shot from the point.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on 630 CHED on the Montreal Canadiens last week.

“It’s going to be interesting with Montreal to see what they’re going to do,” said NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman near the end of a radio appearance on Edmonton’s 630 CHED on Thursday afternoon. “There have been a lot of reports that they’re going to sign a Czech KHL defenseman Jakub Jerabek. From what I understand about him, he can’t sign until May 1; so while I think it’s probably true, it can’t happen for a couple of days, according to some people I know in Russia.

“I am curious to see if that begins – like after the success of the Radulov experiment, that Montreal tries a couple more. They have to find some offense, and that might be the easiest way to do it.”
