NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers – Ron Hextall’s Summer Plans … Move Up In The Draft?
Just another Philadelphia summer

Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia:  What does Ron Hextall do this summer? It appears like he is staying the course.

“We are still the ultimate team sport and I think Vegas proved that to all of us this year. The more we move along here, the more society, pro sports seem to put a spotlight on a star, and that’s fine, but that star has got to have his teammates in our sport or you’re not going to win,” Hextall said. “You look at Washington, they had a lot of really good players in the playoffs. Devante Smith-Pelly. Do they win without Devante Smith-Pelly? A couple guys get all the credit but look what this guy did. We are still the ultimate team sport, we really are.”

Again, Hextall feels he has the stars and will not deviate from his plan to create the ultimate team.

To move up or not move up…

Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Daily News poses the question should Ron Hextall trade up in this draft. There carries some upside but TSN’s Craig Button is more cautious.

“If the Flyers move to get a player, “there may be a little more production and a little bit more potential,” Button said last week,”but to me, to get two players over one in this draft, that’s where I’d take my chances.”

That places Hextall in a solid position to draft Serron Noel and Bode Wilde at 14 and 19, respectively. Those are the current projections anyway. Noel compares to an early Blake Wheeler.

Furthermore, Wilde has the look of a Brent Seabrook type of player. Wilde tallied 41 points (12 goals, 29 assists) in 35 games for the USNTDP under 18 team. Noel scored 28 times and racked up 53 points in 62 contests for Oshawa (OHL).

Naturally, projections can change and trades/reaches happen. However, Hextall finds himself in an excellent position to help his team’s future.
