Hayes will be in Philly this week

Jason Myrtetus: Recently acquired forward and pending UFA Kevin Hayes is scheduled to visit Philadelphia this week.

The Flyers will be laying out their plans will start serious talks. An important week for the Flyers.

Penguins don’t have to rush a Schultz decision

Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Justin Schultz has a year left on his three-year, $16.5 million deal. The Penguins will have to decide if he’s part of their longer-term future.

They have time to decide on what to do with time and could wait until some point next season.

He could be worth $4 to $5 million on a multi-year deal. If he has a good season he may be looking for more and he could price himself out of Pittsburgh.

Ducks looking to get younger as Perry speculation grows

Eric Stephens of The Athletic: Pierre LeBrun reported on the weekend that the Anaheim Ducks are looking to trade Corey Perry, and if they can’t work out a deal, a buyout is an option. His play has declined and he has two years left on his deal.

If bought out, he’d be owed $11 million of the $15 million salary and signing bonus.

Ryan Getzlaf in a text on LeBrun’s report.

“It’s a really tough day for all of us,” Getzlaf wrote in a text message. “I love that guy and have been through everything with him in one way or another.”

The Ducks need to get younger and that is what GM Bob Murray is trying to do.

Ryan Kesler and his $6.875 million cap hit is heading to the LTIR, creating cap flexibility.

The Ducks could retain salary in a Perry trade. A trade with retaining salary would mean they would only have the cap hit on the books for two years and not four with a buyout.

One scout thinks that Perry does have some value and would keep or trade him, but would not buy him out. If he is bought out, a former NHL executive thinks Perry could get a two-year deal at around $4 million per.
