NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers – Giroux, Simmonds, Hart and Weise
The Philadelphia Flyers won't be trading Claude Giroux. Talks with Wayne Simmonds continue. The Flyers are trying to trade Dale Weise.

Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Daily News: Philadelphia Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher said he’s talked to every team about potential deals for now or in the offseason to help improve his team.

They may have only one untouchable.

“We have a lot of good players here, but I would never say never to almost anybody besides Giroux,” Fletcher said, mindful the Flyers star has a no-trade clause. “… He’s probably one of the best players in the history of the franchise, so I don’t think makes much sense. There’s a lot of guys that don’t make much sense, either, but I can’t say never.”

If the Flyers are out of the playoff race and their AHL team in Lehigh Valley is in a race, goaltender Carter Hart could spend some time in the AHL.

Adam Kimelman of NHL.com: Flyers GM Fletcher said that they should have a better idea of Wayne Simmonds future over the next few weeks.

“I’ve had several conversations with Wayne and more importantly with his representation, had some meetings with them,” Fletcher said. “We all know where we stand, and I can’t really predict how it’s going to play out. But in the next few weeks we’ll have to resolve it one way or the other.”

Fletcher wouldn’t say if they’ve sent a contract offer to Simmonds.

“Wayne’s a good hockey player,” Fletcher said. “I don’t think he needs to prove anything to us. There’s different factors you have to consider when you’re going to sign a player. We have lots of holes and a certain amount of money to do it with the salary cap. We’re trying to balance everything and make the right decisions. In a few weeks it’ll be resolved one way or the other.”

Fletcher said that Flyers could be both a buyer and a seller leading up to the trade deadline. In order to get better for next year, they may need to get better this year.

John Boruk of NBC Sports Philadelphia: Aside from Wayne Simmonds, the Flyers have some other pending free agents that will need new contracts. GM Fletcher will have to keep them in mind when trying to fit any potential Simmonds cap hit in – Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton and Travis Sanheim

Dale Weise‘ days as a Flyer appear to be over. They will look to include him in a package and may have to retain some of his salary. The Flyers may just be looking to get younger.

“He’s been working out on his own. I spoke to him again yesterday, and once the American League All-Star break’s over, he’ll report to Lehigh, and he’s obviously hungry to get playing, and to find a situation that’s better for himself.”
