Flyers GM determining which areas need upgrading

Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Philadelphia Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher doesn’t want to make a trade for the sake of making a trade, but he does realize that ownership wants something done, and sooner than later.

Teams also realize this.

Fletcher is still learning the organization and determining what areas need upgrading.

Some potential defensemen that could be available: Colton Parayko, Alex Pietrangelo, and Jake Muzzin.

Some potential goalies include Jimmy Howard and Sergei Bobrovsky.

Up front Vladimir Tarasenko and Charlie Coyle could be available.

It could take $9 to $10 million per season to re-sign Bobrovsky. Spending that money on a sniper may be a better idea, especially with Carter Hart getting closer.

Their defense has struggled and Fletcher may be looking to add a ‘veteran, big-body defenseman.’

Lots of trade talk going on

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 960 and was saying that there is lots of trade talk going on.

“You mentioned L.A. and you mentioned Chicago and there’s St. Louis. There’s a lot of crazy stuff, rumors, coming out of St. Louis. We’ll find out somewhere down the road how much of it is truth and how much of it is fiction. But they’re definitely open to ideas there. Boston has been looking for a third-line center, at least, for quite awhile now. I think there’s a lot of talk out there.”

The Edmonton Oilers have lost defenseman Oscar Klefbom for a bit, but Darnell Nurse has stepped up a bit.

Washington Capitals Andre Burakovsky has had his name in and out of trade rumors for the past couple years and his name has been out there a bit again.
