NHL Rumors: Penguins, Wild, Flames, Sabres and Canadiens
Alex Gelchenyuk and Matt Cullen
On the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota Wild …

Bob McKenzie: (from Friday) Wonder if the Penguins would consider Wild forward Matt Cullen, who has a healthy scratch recently. Would the Wild consider moving him? No idea if either team would be interested. The Penguins need some depth up front.

On the Calgary Flames and Buffalo Sabres …

The Fourth Period: It is believed that the Calgary Flames and Buffalo Sabres have held some trade conversations in the past few weeks. It’s not known if anything is imminent.

The Flames and Sabres have been scouting each other.

Evander Kane, Benoit Pouliot, Sam Reinhart, Josh Gorges, Robin Lehner and Chad Johnson have been in the rumor mill of late.

The Flames have been looking for some depth at forward, and there have been some reports that they might be willing make a move involving their blue line.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette: believes that it’s time for the Canadiens to trade forward Alex Galchenyuk as it doesn’t appear that it’s going to work out.

GM Marc Bergevin and coach Claude Julien no longer believe Galchenyuk can play center.

The longer Galchenyuk remains with the Canadiens, the lower his trade value will become.

The 23-year old Galchenyuk has scored 30 goals in a season before, and he does have the potential to do it again.

Galchenyuk has two years left on his three-year, $14.7 million deal.

“The biggest thing is, I’m telling you right now, is you can’t give up on him,” the coach added. “You got to keep trying to push the right buttons, you got to try to keep helping him, and sometimes it’s not the fun things for either side. But at the end of the day, it’s important that both sides realize that we’re trying to make it work here and not make it fail.”
