NHL Rumors: New York Rangers and the San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks have the salary cap room for both Evander Kane and John Tavares
One New York Rangers …

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: What the Rangers are looking for in their next coach.

“We’re looking for someone who can develop players and develop a team,” Garden executive chairman Jim Dolan told The Post during a conversation at his MSG office on Wednesday. “We want someone who is going to be able to work with young players — all of our players, really — so that they and we improve from one stage of the season to the next and we’re better at the end of the year than at the beginning.”

Dolan added that they will be open minded if a potential coach doesn’t have NHL experience, though it would more challenging if they didn’t at least have some experience NHL assistant experience.

“The guy we hire has to be a developmental coach, I can’t stress that enough.”

On the San Jose Sharks …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 650 was asked about the future of Evander Kane in San Jose.

“I think that Kane would like to stay,” indicated Friedman. “I think they’re very interested in Kane staying. They’ve got like $20 million in cap room. I think that the other thing San Jose has its eye on if he tests the market is Tavares. They’re one of the teams that everybody has kind of linked to him. Now, the way they’re going right now, who knows how this could change everything.

“But I do think they have interest in Kane. Why wouldn’t he have interest in them? They’ve got a ton of cap room. But I think San Jose is one of those teams that wants to pitch Tavares. And I think a lot of teams, if they decide he’s the guy they want and they think they have a legitimate chance at him, they probably wait to see what happens. Although San Jose is one of the few teams that has the room that they could do both.”
