Still plenty of time for the Senators and Stone to work out an extension

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Ottawa Senators and Mark recently agreed on a one-year deal that would see him become a UFA after this season, but he’s stated there is still plenty of time to work out a long-term deal.

Stone added that door is open to continue contract extension talks when they are eligible to sign at the start of January.

“Everyone is looking at this and I think most fans are thinking this is pretty negative news,” Stone said. “I think both sides left Toronto happy that we still have the opportunity to work something out.

“Everybody knows the way that arbitration can go sometimes and the fact that both sides were able to leave on good terms is a good sign.”

Stone added that he believes both sides are happy that they didn’t have to go through the arbitration process.

“We’re really happy with the number and both sides are really happy to have the opportunity to try and work something out long-term.

“We weren’t able to work something out this time around, but we have time to do so.”
