Rangers should move Zuccarello soon

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: New York Rangers GM Jeff Gorton should trade pending free agent forward Mats Zuccarello as soon as he gets a legit offer.

Zuccarello admits that a potential trade on is mind and has affected his game.

“People can say that I’m making enough money that I shouldn’t let any of this affect me, but I’m sorry, I have been here for nine years, and I am human,” said Zuccarello, who has 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) overall. “I know I have a job to do, and I am going to do my best for as long as I’m here. I don’t want to let anyone down.”

The Rangers would have moved Zuccarello at the trade deadline last year or at the draft if they had received an offer they liked.

Holding onto Zuccarello till the deadline won’t create a bidding war.

Canucks and Edler to hold talks soon

Sportsnet: The Vancouver Canucks had internally discussed the idea of asking Quinn Hughes to go pro but they will honor the deal they made with him and will talk after the season.

The Canucks and pending UFA Alexander Edler are expected to hold some contract talks soon.

“We can expect in the next couple of weeks the Canucks to start talking about a contract extension for Alex Edler,” Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos said. “Now, of course, Edler’s made it real clear he’s got a complete no-trade and even if the Canucks weren’t interested in signing him at the end of the season, he still doesn’t want to get traded, but the good news now is he’s probably playing his best hockey of his last few years and they will sit down and start discussing what it would take to get him on a deal.”

Kypreos adds that Edler currently makes $5 million a season and he could get more, but it may have to be on a short-term deal.
