Stone looking over an offer from the Senators

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Mark Stone has an offer on the table from the Ottawa Senators that he and his camp are going over. The Senators would like to have an answer by Wednesday but are willing to go an extra day or two if that’s what it takes.

There are indications that he’s has a five- or six-year offer with a strong AAV.

The Senators are not shopping him, but are listening, with the Winnipeg Jets the leading contender.

The Vegas Golden Knights and Calgary Flames are also interested.

A critical day or two

TSN: The next day or two is absolutely critical for the Ottawa Senators and Mark Stone according to Bob McKenzie.

“Does Stone either sign or negotiate off whatever was presented to him by the Senators last week or does he say ‘thanks or no thanks’ and put himself in the same category as Duchene, the guy who is almost certainly going to be moved before the deadline. We should have clarity on that in the next day or two, and that’s obviously a big one. Because if Stone officially goes onto the market, he would move to No. 1 on the trade bait board, for sure.”

Bruins would be all-in on Stone

Larry Brooks: Have been told that the Boston Bruins would be all in if Mark Stone were he to become available on the trade market.

Adam Herman: “I’d be very curious to see Boston’s plan for outbidding everyone for Stone. Their prospect pool is extremely bland.”

Jimmy Murphy: On Brooks tweet – Don’t doubt the Bruins would be interested but the price is too high and have been told that the Winnipeg Jets are the frontrunners.

Jimmy Murphy: Have been told that the asking for Stone is likely a first-round pick, Jake DeBrusk, and one of Ryan Donato, Danton Heinen or Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson.

Jets would be all-in on Stone

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 650 said he thinks the Winnipeg Jets have the most to offer the Ottawa Senators for Mark Stone, and they want him. Senators GM Pierre Dorion was in Winnipeg all weekend watching the Jets and Manitoba Moose.

“I’m not convinced Winnipeg is in on Duchene yet, or they will be. I think that Winnipeg is all-in on Mark Stone, who’s a local guy.

“And Winnipeg has a lot of things they can do. They’re willing to move their first-rounder. They’ve got some really good prospects. They’ve got Roslovic, they’ve got Niku, they’ve Vesalainen. I’m not convinced which of those guys they’ll give up. But if it’s, say – for argument’s sake – Vesalainen and a first-rounder, that probably gets him done as a rental.”

Friedman states that he’s just spitballing, but they can do it if they want.
