On Anders Nilsson

Mike Harrington: WGR’s Paul Hamilton said the Vancouver Canucks are one of the teams that is interested in Nilsson.

On the Washington Capitals …

Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: Capitals GM Brian MacLellan told Karl Alzner‘s agent before the Draft last week that they didn’t have the salary cap space to re-sign him.

“He said they had to allocate their money in a different direction toward some other contracts and that they couldn’t keep everyone,” Barry said.

After re-signing T.J. Oshie to an eight-year, $46 million contract MacLellan said “I would imagines we’re done” with regards to signing their own UFAs. Their UFAs include Alzner, Kevin Shattenkirk, Justin Williams and Daniel Winnik.

Alzner’s agent said  “upwards or close to 10 teams” have been in contact since the interview process opened. TSN reporting the Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens have shown interest. Alzner spoke with the Vegas Golden Knights during their window.

Shattenkirk is looking for the right fit and a team that has a chance at winning.

“We met prior to this window opening and set an outline of what we think is a really good game plan and we’re just methodically going through the process and making sure that we’re contacting all the teams that are on his list,” Neumann said. “I would just say we’re listening to everybody at this point.”

Williams has said they haven’t really had any talks with the Capitals, but he’s getting interest from elsewhere.

“We’ve had a significant amount of interest and we’re trying to narrow it down as far as the teams that Justin is interested in,” Campbell said. “Justin’s focus is on finding the right fit for him and a team that has a chance to win a Cup in his mind. So that’s sort of what we’re doing right now.”
