NHL Rumors: Tavares, JvR, Vegas, Sabres, Red Wings and Iginla
Jarome Iginla and John Tavares
On John Tavares

Brian Compton: John Tavares said that they are willing to negotiate with the New York Islanders during the season.

On James van Riemsdyk

Dave McCarthy: Toronto Maple Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk on being a free agent after this season: “We’ve got a bigger goal here as a team. All the individual stuff takes a back seat to that.”

On the Vegas Golden Knights …

Sin Bin: Vegas GM George McPhee said that teams are calling him about their defensemen, but he’s been telling teams to give him a bit of time to evaluate his own players.

On the Buffalo Sabres …

Paul Hamilton: Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner: “My agents wanted one year, I didn’t want it, but my agents wanted it.”

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Helene St. James: Restricted free agent forward Andreas Athanasiou‘s agent tells the Free Press that “talks are ongoing.”

Ansar Khan: Henrik Zetterberg said that despite the offseason report from Sweden, he still plans on playing the final four years of his contract. His health will be the determining factor.

On Jarome Iginla

Michael Traikos in the Toronto Sun: Jarome Iginla is being “selective” according to his agent, and won’t sign with just anyone.

Iginla with the Edmonton Oilers makes some sense, same with the Calgary Flames. Iginla filling Chris Kunitz’s role with the Pittsburgh Penguins could be a good fit.

Though Iginla has received offers this offseason, teams aren’t lining up.

“I think after his lengthy career he can afford to be very selective,” Meehan said. “It’s having the independence to choose where you want to be and look for a perfect situation for yourself.”

Meehan added that Iginla shouldn’t and won’t sign a PTO.
