NHL Rumors: Thornton, Marleau, Maple Leafs and Predators
Despite an offers on the table from the San Jose Sharks, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau still considering their options
On Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau …

Kevin Kurz: The Sharks are willing to go more than one-year for Joe Thornton as well, likely a two-year offer on the table for him as well.

David Pagnotta: Have been informed that Patrick Marleau’s two-year offer from the Sharks is worth “close to” $4.5 million a season. A decision hasn’t been made. It’s unclear what money Thornton was offered.

David Pagnotta: Thornton has strong interest from five or six teams. It still sounds like the Sharks are still at the top of his list, with no clear front-runner on teams outside of the Sharks.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Howard Berger: Hearing more about the Maple Leafs and Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau. James van Riemsdyk‘s name is very much on the trade block.

Platinum Seat Ghosts: From Bob McKenzie’s ‘Bobcast,’ he believes that goaltender Curtis McElhinney will return to the Maple Leafs next season.

James Mirtle: (Agree with the above tweet) The Maple Leafs haven’t been connected to any other goaltenders and McElhinney’s camp have been very quiet.

Howard Berger: An agent has said that the Maple Leafs have spoke with Justin Williams since Wednesday. He might be the best short-term option for them.

On the Nashville Predators …

Brooks Bratten: Predators GM David Poile said they’ve spoken with a lot of free agents over the past few days.

Brooks Bratten: Poile said the free agent Mike Fisher needs more time to decide whether he’ll play next season or retire. He’s hoping for a decision in the next couple weeks.

Adam Vingan: Sounds like the Predators will go into free agency with Mike Fisher in mind. They could have money set aside Fisher if he decides to play next season.

Brooks Bratten: Poile said that contract negotiations with RFAs Ryan Johansen, Viktor Arvidsson and Austin Watson have started.
