NHL Rumors: Is The Time To Consider Trading William Nylander Getting Close For The Maple Leafs?
Dreger on William Nylander

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger on TSN 1050 said there is still a “wide gap” in money between the Toronto Maple Leafs and William Nylander.

Dreger was asked if it’s getting close to the time that the Maple Leafs have to consider trading him, to which he says they have to at least consider it soon. If he’s not signed by December 1st, he’s not eligible to play this season.

“I believe that would be the case late October – where we’re at now – or into the first week of November. Not that they would trade him by that point, but that they’d seriously have to start listening to some of the interest.

“There’s no shortage of interest in William Nylander. If I was going to handicap this, I’d put the Carolina Hurricanes right near the top of the page of teams that are interested in Nylander.”

Host Carlo Colaiacovo brings up Hurricanes defenseman Brett Pesce, and Dreger agrees that if the Maple Leafs are willing to consider it, Pesce is where they have to start.

Friedman on Nylander

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on the NHL Network yesterday and said that despite talks between the Maple Leafs and Nylander’s agent Lewis Gross progressing last week, things now appeared to have stopped and are not “really moving anywhere.”

Friedman doesn’t think they are at the point of trading him and that they still want to re-sign him, but GM Kyle Dubas tour last week was just not about watching hockey games.

“I know he likes to watch games, but you look at some of those teams he went and saw – Los Angeles, Minnesota, Carolina, Philadelphia – those are some of the teams I think that make the most sense as a potential Nylander destination.”
