On the Edmonton Oilers …

Ryan Rishaug: The Oilers have had some early discussions with Eric Gryba. They would like to bring him back but his size and grit will get interest from other teams.

Jim Matheson: Early talks between the Oilers and Gryba have been encouraging. He could be looking for a two-year deal.

Jim Matheson: Unless they sign another free agent defenseman, Gryba could be a third pairing partner for Darnell Nurse. Gryba’s liked by teammates and coaches.

Dennis Bernstein: The Canadiens are on Joe Thornton‘s list and they could be interested in Martin Hanzal. thinks they will be able to re-sign defenseman Andrei Markov.

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on a Sportsnet 590. Friedman thinks that the Montreal Canadiens trade talks involving Alex Galchenyuk with teams didn’t go as well as they may have thought and that he’ll likely stay.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Rick Dhaliwal: The Canucks are still trying to sign goaltender Ryan Miller. They haven’t turned to their Plan B just yet. (as of yesterday morning)

Rick Dhaliwal: Nail Yakupov‘s agent Igor Larionov said that Yakupov would be interested in signing with the Canucks.

Darren Dreger: The Canucks were one of a dozen teams that called on Flyers pending UFA Jordan Weal. He’s from North Vancouver and could be a fit.
