NHL Rumors: Knights, Perron and Neal … Islanders and Tavares

John Tavares

On the Vegas Golden Knights, David Perron and James Neal …

Sportsnet Headlines: David Perron and James Neal have been a big part of the Golden Knights season and both are pending UFAs. There is not enough money in Vegas for both players to re-sign. Talks have cooled down on Neal. If a betting man would pick Perron over Neal. The sense is Perron would be cheaper than Neal.

On New York Islanders and John Tavares …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 590 and was talking about the NY Islanders and John Tavares. Have to think things are leaning to Tavares leaving.

“I do think, though, that the New York Islanders are going to sit down with him and his representation – maybe even more than once – and the Islanders are going to say, ‘What’s it going to take?’ What do we have to do to make sure that he stays.’ And I still think that’s the last advantage that they have is they’re going to have this last meeting and this conversation and they could ask him what he wants to stay.”

Islanders fans are worried. An arena is coming, but it’s going to take time to build. Tavares main priority is winning, and how are the Islanders going to convince him that they can win soon? They have Matthew Barzal and two lottery picks this year.

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek on their 31 thoughts podcast.

“No. 1, are the Montreal Canadiens at all close to winning. And No. 2, he’s going to have to offer the max because Nevada – I could see Vegas being into this – no state tax. Florida – and I still think the Lightning are going to try to find a way to be part of this – no state tax. Texas – if Dallas says, ‘Okay, we’d like to be part of this.’ – no state tax. Montreal I think has the highest tax in the league right now. How are you going to beat that.”
