Flyers have two RFAs to still sign

Dave Isaac: Philadelphia Flyers coach Alain Vigneault said that he’s spoken with both unsigned restricted free agents Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov. Vigneault said he’s not getting in the middle of their contract talks though.

Dave Isaac: Vigneault: “Hopefully they’re here when it starts. We still have a couple more days to sort this out so hopefully they’re here and we’re gonna make this work. I’m saying how much I would like them to be here, but I’m putting myself in their shoes. I’m sure they want to be here too.”

Jamey Baskow: Can confirm that the Flyers and Konecny’s camp have spoken recently. The Flyers had been hoping to have him signed by September 1st but now they are hopeful for the start of training camp.

Sam Carchidi: The report of Provorov asking for $10 million a season was bogus. He is looking for something in the $8 million range.

Barzal not in a rush to sign an extension

Tom Gulitti of NHL.com: New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal said that there have been no substantive contract extension talks between the two sides yet.

“I’m not in a rush at all,” Barzal said at the NHL Player Media Tour on Thursday. “At the end, if the term and money is there and it’s right for both sides, then something will get done midseason or whenever. But I’m not in a rush at all.

“It’s not even on my mind, the contract thing. That will happen when it happens. I’m an RFA, I’m not a UFA, so I’m not waiting to hit July 1 to see the market. It’s more just when the deal gets done that’s right for both sides. I want to be on the island.”

Barzal has a year left on his deal. He’s not worried about being in the same boat as some of the current RFAs but he is watching what is going on.

“It’s something in the back of my mind, obviously,” he said. “It’s the situation, it’s the reality of it. My contract is coming up this year and there’s a lot of RFAs that are unsigned and it’s kind of been fun watching from the outside not being in it. Just watching these guys and just seeing the media and all these rumors and everyone thinks they know what’s going on and, really, I don’t think anyone knows what’s going on.
