NHL Rumors: Flames, Golden Knights and Canucks
Bo Horvat of the Vancouver Canucks
On the Calgary Flames …

David Pagnotta: Flames GM Brad Treliving was listed to attend the Maple Leafs – Capitals game last night.

On the Vegas Golden Knights …

Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: Talk is the Golden Knights don’t have a coach yet as they don’t have the budget to sign one.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Rory Boylen of Sportsnet: Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning will now look to signing Bo Horvat after signing Ben Hutton to a bridge deal. Benning is also still looking to add some more scoring.

Elliotte Friedman potential comparables could be Victor Rask ($4 million cap hit) and Rickard Rakell ($3.85 million).

“The biggest question is, he’s represented by Newport, and when you look at their history, their history is to wait. And I think if Horvat continues to score at the rate he’s scoring at and you look at the future in Vancouver, and he’s got a chance to be a big point scorer there, I think the Canucks are going to need to come up with a really big number to sign him to a long term deal right now.”

If Horvat continues his scoring pace, he could end up with more than Rask and Rakell.

Nick Kypreos noted that despite being near the bottom of the standings, they are not giving up on the season and continue to look for scoring help. The Canucks aren’t wanting to trade Chris Tanev.

“It doesn’t appear Jim Benning and the Vancouver Canucks are ready to mail it in any time soon, they’re looking for scoring,” Kypreos said. “A lot of teams are looking for scoring. Of course, you’re going to have to move something substantial. Teams are calling for Chris Tanev right now, but Vancouver is saying he’s not available. You can pick as many as you want on defence here, but that’s one player we’re not prepared to go down that route with just yet.”
