NHL Rumors: Flames and Hamilton … Red Wings and Goalies … Islanders and Tavares
John Tavares should decide today whether or not he'll talk to teams during the free agent window. Carolina Hurricanes, Elias Lindholm talks hit a wall.

On the Calgary Flames …

TSN Radio Vancouver: Pierre McGuire on Dougie Hamilton rumors: “I don’t think it’s a personality thing. I think people just don’t think he produces to the level he’s expected to. But Calgary doesn’t have one pick in the first three rounds….so maybe that’s why you trade a Dougie Hamilton”

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Stephen Whyno: Red Wings GM Ken Holland said that during the free agent interview period he plans on talking to some goaltenders. Holland downplayed that he is trying to trade for one.

Stephen Whyno: Holland: “Obviously we want to sign a goalie. We’re going to talk to some goalies this week. I don’t know if I’ll really be trading for one, but we’re going to talk to some free agents.”

On the New York Islanders …

Greg Wyshynski: Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello when asked yesterday if he is optimistic of being able to re-sign John Tavares: “Right now, until something’s done, it’s not done. There’s no question that he’s a very important part of this organization. We want him to be here. We’ll just have to wait.”

Darren Dreger: John Tavares is expected to decide today as to whether or not he will take advantage of the free agent interview period.

Chris Nichold of FRS hockey: Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet 590 on John Tavares.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s maybe some clarity on the weekend of are they listening to pitches,” indicated Friedman. “If we get to that point with no news, it’s going to be crazy around him. If I remember correctly, I think this is the weekend of his bachelor party, because he’s getting married this summer, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his representatives – and that’s Pat Brisson – comes out at some point with an idea of, ‘This is what John Tavares is going to do.’ A) Is he going to sign on the Island, or B) He’s not signing, this is what he’s going to do next week.
