NHL Rumors: Karlsson and Capitals … Rangers, Penguins, Canucks and Sabres
Are the Washington Capitals now in on Erik Karlsson?
On Erik Karlsson and the Washington Capitals …

AJ Jakubec: Sources saying that the Washington Capitals are making a push for defenseman Erik Karlsson. They would likely have to move pending UFA defenseman John Carlson to get a deal done.

The Vegas Golden Knights, Tampa Bay Lightning and San Jose Sharks are also in on Karlsson.

The Golden Knights could take on Bobby Ryan‘s contract, the Lightning can’t.

Brian McNally: The Capitals would have to be really creative to make a Karlsson trade. Karlsson has another year left on his deal, John Carlson doesn’t. “That’d be some complicated, ballsy stuff right there.”

JJ Regan: “Erik Karlsson has a cap hit of $6.5 million. It would take a lot, and I mean a LOT for to make this work. Too much to make this realistic IMO, but doesn’t hurt to at least kick the tires.”

On Ryan McDonagh

Elliotte Friedman: Believe that the Capitals continue to search for defensemen and have checked in on Rangers Ryan McDonagh. It seems though that they’ve moved on from McDonagh.

Michael Landsberg:  Bob McKenzie on TSN: “My sense is that there’s nothing for the New York Rangers to consider right now, from the Toronto Maple Leafs or anyone else.”

On the New York Rangers …

Darren Dreger: The Rangers are getting interest on forwards JT Miller and Mats Zuccarello. No team has shown serious enough interest for the Rangers liking and as of now, a trade seems unlikely.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Pierre LeBrun: The Penguins aren’t finished and are open to making another trade.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Jason Botchford: The Canucks need to take the best offer on Thomas Vanek and move on. “the idea this is complicated and there’s all this heat on management about it is ridiculous. it’s basic and obvious”

On Evander Kane and the Buffalo Sabres …

David Pagnotta: The Sabres have let it be known that they are willing to salary in an Evander Kane trade.
