Talks between the Devils and Wood remain quiet

Chris Ryan of NJ.com: Restricted free agent Miles Wood wants to join teammates at trading camp. Devils GM Ray Shero said on Thursday that there hasn’t been much talk this past week, with Wood’s agent Peter Fish saying this have been quiet.

Both Shero and Fish have said the gap between the two sides is not insurmountable.

“Miles would be open to anything,” Fish said. “He just wants to be there and keep proving to the Devils that he can help them.”

Friedman’s 31 Thoughts roundup

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Ottawa Senators forward Matt Duchene said that there haven’t been any serious contract talks as of yet. The Senators and Mark Stone have spoken, but he’s not eligible to sign anything until after July 1st. Does the trading of Erik Karlsson change their long-term thinking?

The Dallas Stars were never interested in including Miro Heiskanen in any Karlsson deal.

It the Senators decide to move Duchene and/or Stone, there will be teams interested.

Candidates for the Senators assistant GM position: Chris O’Hearn, Claude Loiselle, Brad Holland, Jim Clark, Tim Pattyson, and Shawn Simpson.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights were among the teams to check in on Rick Nash. One GM said he heard a team was willing to offer Nash a three-year at $16 million. Nash’s agent said “Nothing has changed since July 1. Status quo.”

William Nylander isn’t interested in a bridge deal with the Maple Leafs and they appear to be far apart on a long-term deal. There is a rumor going around that he’s asking for something close to Leon Draisaitl‘s $8.5 million per season.

Have heard that contract negotiations between the Anaheim Ducks and Nick Ritchie have been tough.

Guessing that the Buffalo Sabres and Sam Reinhart will do a bridge deal.

Josh Morrissey and Darnell Nurse are looking for bridge deals. Shea Theodore is open to a bridge or long-term deal.
