NHL Rumors: McDavid, Red Wings, Sharks, Canucks, Alzner and Blackhawks
Two reports of the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid talking eight years and over $13 million a season
On the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid …

Ryan Rishaug: Think that Connor McDavid could get an eight year deal in the $13 million range.

Elliotte Friedman: Furthering McDavid’s report, hearing McDavid’s deal could be around $13.25 million a season for eight years.

NHL Numbers: Having McDavid at $13 million per season would put him at 17.3 percent of the 2017-18 salary cap ceiling. When Sidney Crosby signed his $8.7 million contract back in 2007, it would be the same percentage, 17.3.

Jim Matheson: Even with the signing of defenseman Eric Gryba yesterday, the Oilers will still need to sign another defenseman with Andrej Sekera out until December after his knee surgery. They need to find a No. 7 guy.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Craig Custance: The Detroit Red Wings are interested in defenseman Ron Hainsey.

Craig Custance: The Red Wings have been in contact with Thomas Vanek but not sure how interested they are in signing the free agent. There are about five teams that are talking to Vanek.

Ansar Khan: The Red Wings would like to sign a free agent forward but don’t think that they will have the salary cap space to do so after they fix their defense.

On the San Jose Sharks …

Andy Strickland: The San Jose Sharks are believed to have made Patrick Marleau a two-year contract offer. Joe Thornton is getting lots of interest and is still looking to get paid.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Rick Dhaliwal: Have been told that the Canucks have shown some interested in free agent defenseman Matt Hunwick.

On Karl Alzner

Craig Custance: The Dallas Stars were interested in Karl Alzner until they traded for Marc Methot. Alzner will be visiting with the Montreal Canadiens and is expected to visit Vegas and Vancouver.

On the Chicago Blackhawks …

Scott Powers of The Athletic Chicago: Source saying the Blackhawks have shown interest in center Sam Gagner and the feeling is mutual.
