NHL Rumors: Julien, Gallant, Scouting EDM-ARI, and Tavares
John Tavares said again that he wants to remain with the New York Islanders
On Claude Julien …

Pierre LeBrun: Source saying the Montreal Canadiens asked the Boston Bruins permission on Sunday to speak with Claude Julien.

Elliotte Friedman: Sounds like multiple teams had asked the Bruins permission to speak with Claude Julien. The Canadiens decided to move fast.

Kevin Paul Dupont: Think that both the Vancouver Canucks and Vegas Golden Nights also asked permission to speak with Julien.

On Gerard Gallant and the Montreal Canadiens ….

Pierre LeBrun: The Canadiens asked permission from the Florida Panthers to speak with Gerard Gallant, but they didn’t end up talking to him. He might have been their plan B.

Scouting the Edmonton Oilers and Arizona Coyotes …

Jason Gregor: Scouts listed to attend last night’s Oilers – Coyotes game: Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders and Vegas Golden Knights.

On the New York Islanders …

Justin Cuthbert of TheScore: Islanders captain John Tavares once again said he is hopeful to sign a contract extension with the Islanders and remain with the organization long-term.

“I’ve said it in the past: I want to be on the Island,” Tavares said, via TSN. “That’s where I hope everything works out. I think we all know there’s a lot that goes into it more than just saying that you want to be there.

“There’s negotiations (that) happen, and there’s a process that goes about it. For me, it’s just going through all that.

“Like I said, I haven’t thought too much about it, but obviously it’s coming sooner than later. But I’m just worried about playing, and trying to help this team get to the playoffs. I love playing here and obviously hope to be here.”

Tavares isn’t an unrestricted free agent until next summer, but is eligible to sign a contract extension after July 1st.
