On the Chicago Blackhawks …
Frank Seravalli: In the past few days the Blackhawks have been looking to Marian Hossa‘s contract again. He’s already been granted LTIR exemption by the league for his medical condition. He has three years left at a $5.25 million salary cap hit but at the reduced salary.
On the Montreal Canadiens …
Renaud Lavoie: Slava Voynov‘s rights are still owned by the LA Kings and there has been speculation that the Kings and Canadiens have talked about Voynov. According to multiple sources that is not accurate. “Conclusion: he’ll never play in Montreal.”
Pierre LeBrun: Xavier Ouellet was bought out by the Detroit Red Wings earlier this week, and has heard the Canadiens are among the teams that have kicked tires on Ouellet.
On the Pittsburgh Penguins …
Chris Nichols of FRS Hockey: Darren Dreger was on TSN 690 talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins and said that the Penguins may not have an agreement with defenseman Jack Johnson.
“I do believe that they’re eyeballing Jack Johnson,” indicated Dreger. “From a real good Pittsburgh Penguins source after reports had surfaced that there was an agreement in place, five-year term… whatever (the money) was… I was told that there’s no agreement in place. But maybe there’s some protection going on from Pittsburgh’s angle because I think that Jack Johnson is a primary target of the Penguins.”
After trading Conor Sheary, the Penguins may not be done.
“I don’t know that the Penguins are done yet, to be fair,” noted Dreger. “I had someone tell me yesterday that maybe – maybe – they’d consider trading Tristan Jarry. The only reason they would be because someone is in a full panic mode. Like the Islanders need a goaltender, the Hurricanes need a goaltender. Tristan Jarry is going to be a good goaltender, he’s just not going to get that starting opportunity, I don’t think, with Matt Murray in Pittsburgh.”
