NHL Rumors: Buyouts, Czarnik, de Haan, O’Reilly, Hurricanes, Wild, Blues and Sharks
Logan Couture and the San Jose Sharks will make official tomorrow an eight-year contract extension worth $8 million per season
On buyouts …

Renaud Lavoie: The Montreal Canadiens put Steve Mason on unconditional waivers to purpose of buying out his contract.

On Austin Czarnik

Craig Custance: 24 teams have been in contact with Austin Czarnik. He’s narrowed down his list and is expected to sign a two-year deal with a team from the West

On Calvin de Haan

Mike Kelly: As many as nine teams are interested in defenseman Calvin de Haan. Most teams are from the Eastern Conference.

On Ryan O’Reilly

Pierre LeBrun: All quiet with regards Sabres Ryan O’Reilly. He’s owed $7.5 million after midnight tonight. There is still time for teams to make offers, but as of now there isn’t anything there to the Sabres liking.

On the Carolina Hurricanes …

Michael Smith: Hurricanes GM Don Waddell on their goaltending: “We’ll be signing somebody in the next 24 hours or so.”

On the Minnesota Wild …

Larry Brooks: It appears that free agent defenseman Greg Pateryn will be signing with the Wild tomorrow. The Rangers had been considering Pateryn.

On the St. Louis Blues …

Andy Strickland: If Kyle Brodziak sign with the Flames, Oilers or somewhere else, Mark Letestu could be a fourth-line option for the Blues.

On the San Jose Sharks …

David Pagnotta: The Sharks and Logan Couture have agreed on an eight-year, $64 million contract extension that can’t be officially announced until tomorrow.

David Pagnotta: The extension doesn’t have any effect on their ability to sign John Tavares. If the Sharks can sign Tavares, they still plan on re-signing Joe Thornton to a one-year deal.
