NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres and Ryan O’Reilly
The Buffalo Sabres will be asking for a lot if they decide to trade Ryan O'Reilly.
On the Buffalo Sabres and Ryan O’Reilly

Chris Nichols of FRS Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 650 talking about the Buffalo Sabres and if they will trade center Ryan O’Reilly. Centers aren’t easy to find, and GM Jason Botterill is going to want to get a lot for O’Reilly if they are going to him. If their high asking isn’t met, they don’t have to move him now.

“The one thing about Evander Kane is I think it was a fait accompli because it was at the end of his contract and I think they really wanted to get something for him. So that was going to happen for sure. While I think it’s likely O’Reilly is traded right now, I don’t think it’s as much of a slam dunk guarantee as Kane was.”

Chris Nichols of FRS Hockey: Darren Dreger was on TSN 1040 talking about the Buffalo Sabres and Ryan O’Reilly.

“The price tag is going to be very, very high,” began Dreger. “Jason Botterill made that abundantly clear when this speculation first arose at the end of the year.”

O’Reilly said after the season that he was frustrated with his game, as well as all the losing in Buffalo. He still feels this way, but he still has a good relationship with GM Jason Botterill according to Dreger. But ….

“I think that if the right deal or the right offer was made, absolutely Buffalo would consider trading him. And it’s starting to feel like it’s more likely now than not likely.”

If the Sabres are going to move O’Reilly around the draft, Dreger thinks they will be looking for:

“It’s going to be likely a young NHL player or a prospect, a high draft pick, and maybe something else on top of that.”
